Funky is not coming form ages, I think. Maybe the music "Funk" has throw in into the everyday language. But 'funk' is not. I read in my dictionary that "he funked it" (il a canné, s'est dégonflé) has been living in the language for some time yet. I read that the origin of funky has to be found in a popular US word meaning 'stinky'.The funky music also comes from popular origins, from people who were poor, having nothing but a old piano as an instrument. That music could be looked down on by high classes -reason of the word funk - but it made low classes crazy. So funky generally means crazy, excellent, wonderful. (nothing but a personal view).
