The answer isn't to give without to reflect. La source is a salon féminin open by a French lady. Full of very good breeding and knowledge pretty girls, it was well known from High society men. They said between hem:"Let's go and crunch a little French apple". New york was the only town having such a "salon"; Big Apple became the town's nickname.
