The Delavigne Corporation

The show must go on

This is a response to all you wanted to know about the creation of a Delavigne Corp. scenario.
Let us examine a lesson, “Bob’s Expense Account” : there are 3 main characters involved : Icarus, Bruno, Robert (Bob).

No doubt, “self-confident, decisive, willful, and confrontational”, Bruno is an EIGHT. “principled, purposeful, self-controlled, and perfectionistic”, this is Icarus, a ONE. Bob is “spontaneous, versatile, distractible, and scattered”, a SEVEN.

Icarus and Bruno are reviewing all employee expense accounts. There is an unexplained extra charge on Bob’s account. Bob will tell them : “we had this extra money and, well, I’ve always loved pinball…”

The Enneagram says :

For Bruno and Icarus
“Ones and Eights bring a common concern with fighting for truth and justice in their world. They both often feel that it is up to them to stand against whatever they perceive as injustice or falseness. Both can see themselves as gallant crusaders protecting the weak, righting wrongs, and making the world a better place.”

For Icarus and Robert
“Ones and Sevens have a particular complementary and reciprocal relationship. … they can drive each other further apart by playing on each other's weaknesses …. Ones bring conscientiousness, orderliness, good work habits, methodical attention to detail, and a pleasure in maintaining excellence and high standards. Sevens bring spontaneity, high energy, curiosity, an orientation toward fun and adventure, the desire to try new things, and an ability to not get too hung up with getting everything done perfectly.”

For Robert and Bruno
“Sevens bring more lightness and a sense of fun and excitement, trying something new and different for the sake of keeping things fresh and stimulating. Eights are usually surprisingly more reserved and moody than is often recognized, and they rely on the Seven to lighten the atmosphere and to make their practical affairs more fun and enjoyable. Eights also bring directness, decisiveness, and the willingness to face difficult situations with determination and persistence.”

Questions to keen readers ? :
- Do you know what happens at the end of the episode ?
- What enneagram type is Susan Bliss ?
- Are there links between types and functions in a company ?
- Would it be the same sketch with a Myers-Briggs typology ?

Whatever your response to any of these questions please press the button to keep the ball rolling.

  • We are filled with wonder at reading Dr Donnovan's unveilings about the creation of characters and scenarios. The scene headed “Bob’s Expense Account” is particularly exemplary of the implementation of the enneagram typical characters, more to the point that our Palo Alto graduated psychologist is displaying the traits of the enneagram poles.
The rather long episode at stake comes to the expected end. Icarus, sticking to the principles, would like to make Bob reimburse the unjustified expenses. But the number 8 is the boss and will go to a more human confrontation with Bob.
I just notice here that the GymGlish lessons have made us used to the opposite of a rational and regular ways of goings. For instance the Radio Rhubarb trailer making a addition of names.

I for one would never attempt to type a Susan Bliss without getting first the portrayal of the 9 typical personalities of the enneagram. What I could find on different internet sites is too much confused and muddled.

The functions in the Delavigne go together with the personality types. That's self-evident as we are here in a fiction story.

The Myers-Briggs typology? As long as I can see on internet sites, that's a typology especially linked to management. Why not that one rather than the Gurdjieff's? Is it Donna Donnavan's fancy? Anyway it's not my area of expertise and I'll let that topic to specialists. Are there some among GymGlishers?

Anyway, I am grateful to Donna for the leaks.

  • Hi, Joe, thank you for your kind words, they go straight to my heart. But I must confess I feel a little let down by other members of your community : AhQ, Sandy, Ugold, Victorine, Whacky and others. I hope they will soon tell what they think of what you call a "leak". It is true that it was a bit risky but I felt it was my duty to do so.
  • Dear Donna,

This whole discussion is complelely over my head. Sorry to say that - but the whole thing about
the enneagram and the constellation of the person's in the story is not my realm. The only thing I can
contribute: Out of curiousness, I've been taking an online enneagram test most recently and figured out that I share the same type which a Delavigne figure I can identify with the mot. But the rest of the discussion is over
my head. Sorry - I'm not a psychologist, I'm not the writer type, I am not an interlectual - I am a technical person.
Sorry to dissapoint you. ( I guess I should change my moniker to 'Joe the plumber'). Sorry, Joe, no harm intended. I'm the simple type, the average Joe,the 'plumber' type.
  • Come on, Whacky ! Sure we met in Palo Alto, just like Harry and Sally, some years ago, you were studying maths and physics ?
  • Donna dear,
Sorry not to be that much interested by the process of Delavigne cie birth, but i do love all these characters ; They make me smile and laugh.... when grammar is not too overwhelming.
I apologise, dear donna and, for forgivness, a special Haiku of my own for you :
    Winter still asleep
    Bruno smells among his dreams
    Snowdrops are smiling.

    Cheers Donna-Donne

  • Thank you Whacky and Victorine, you are real Gentlemen.
  • Dearest Donna Donna Donnovan,

I was delighted to find my name listed amond your possible speaking partners.

It isn't unnecessary to get acquainted with your enneagram. That should ennoble us to feel sharing a thought with the donnish Donna Donnovan and we could become witty annalists of the unnumerable features of the characters.

But the enneagram unnerves me a bit as I am not standing in the inner circle of the psychologists. I'd like to come back to an innuendo made by Joe: You should first release all the traits belonging to the 9 typical personalities.

Only then should I dare to take your questions into account.
    Yours sincerely,
    AhQ
  • “You should first release all the traits belonging to the 9 typical personalities.”
Okay then, you know I always try to do what can please my beloved readers. And I feel very sorry too if my writings annoy or “unnerve”; but it is the dark side of my type : Twos may want to give to others even when they have not been asked for.
We have a common culture : Delavigne Corp. characters. They are as typical as the Enneagram types can be. If you agree, I’ll describe in topics to come what is characteristic in the behaviour of our friends.
    Cheers.
    Donna
