Hi!
Can you tell me the meaning of " do " in this kind of sentences. Is it there to reinforce " love snacking "....

    Yes it does, Carmelle, but I hope you don't love snacking because it's not good for the health...

    No, I don't. It's Susan Bliss who do love snacking.... I just like snacking.....

    Hello-


    Thanks for your question.


    The auxiliary 'do' (or 'did') in front of the main verb is often used to add emphasis (like you mentioned), OR contrast or contradict a previous statement, .




    Examples: I haven't yet completed my homework. I DID however look at the first few pages.


    Or: -You haven't washed the dishes
    -I did wash the dishes! You just assume I haven't.
    (Here 'did' actually contradicts the original statement)




    You can recognize 'do' used in this way when it precedes another verb in its infinitive form (without 'to'), and above all when the previous statement is negative or a subject of dispute!
